rockin-bass
These are the basses I played in The Rockin Paramounts: Fender Jazz Bass, Gibson EB-0, 1962 Hofner 500/1. In the 60’s we had some cool basses but none of them really cut through on recordings and we were limited to Fender Duel Showman Bass Amps so playing live was also a challenge. I started out with a Fender Bassman but soon purchased a Fender Showman which had one JBL D-130. I used to blow it up once a week and I would go to Swank Speaker Service to get it repaired before I had to play the next weekend. At that point I started buying Fender Duel Showman Amplifiers and went to two Duel Showman speaker cabinets. It was never loud enough so I purchased another Duel Showman Amp and another Duel Showman Speaker Cabinet and plugged my bass into a Y cable which went to the two amplifiers. It worked to some degree but I started making my own speaker cabinets. I built a triple Showman (three JBL D-130 speakers) and aside from the fact that it weighted a ton it wasn’t bad.
