Rockin Paramounts

The Rockin Paramounts: Don Rexinger/Rhythm Guitar, Lead Vocals,, Bob Wilcox/Lead Guitar, BG vocals, Bill Wilcox/Lead Vocals, Tommy Coyle, RIP/Drums, Lead Vocals and Joe Hesee/Bass Guitar, Lead and BG Vocals.

When Bob Wilcox decided to make changes to his earlier band called “Digger and the Paramounts”,,,  Tommy Coyle suggested to Bob that he consider having me play bass. Although I was just starting out on bass,  Bob liked me and made a decision to work me into the band. Bob then decided to bring in his brother Bill to assist in the lead vocals. The group was then renamed “The Rockin Paramounts”.  This was my first band and we gained quick popularity which resulted in large crowds of teens wherever we played. Places like the Peppermint Stick Teen Club and the Niagara Falls and Delaware Blvd Caves were packed to capacity when we played. Our gigs eventually spread to numerous high schools, and other teen clubs throughout Western New York. The year 1966 brought happiness and sadness to the group. We entered into the ” St. John Terrell’s Rock and Roll Championship” in Lambertville New Jersey, where there were over 750 bands in the competition. With Phil Specter as a judge, The Rockin Paramounts landed second place in the competition!  The sad part of 1966 was that this was during the Vietnam War era and sadly, our lead guitar player Bob Wilcox received his Draft Notice and went into the Military which brought an end to The Rockin Paramounts….  If it wasn’t for Tommy and Bob I might not have ever had the opportunity to play in a band. Billy Sheehan lived in our neighborhood and used to watch us play. He loved the bass and what I was doing. Without Bob Wilcox  giving me the chance to play out in a band I might not have become a musician/bass player and Billy might not have started playing bass.
